The Inca Trail is strictly regulated by the Peruvian government to protect its cultural and natural heritage. Only 500 people are allowed to pass per day, including tourists, guides, and porters.
- This means that the actual number of hikers is around 200 travelers per day.
- Permits sell out months in advance, especially between April and October (peak season).
