The second day is dedicated to exploring some of the most intriguing and surprising sites in the Sacred Valley. At 8:30 a.m., we depart for Moray, known as the “Inca agricultural laboratory.” Its concentric circular terraces are unique in the world and reflect the ingenuity of the Incas, who experimented with different microclimates to grow diverse crops. Walking through these terraces made me feel like I was inside a natural amphitheater created to honor the earth.

We will then head to Maras, a town that has been producing salt in the famous Maras Salt Mines since Inca times. With more than 3,000 salt pools glistening in the sun, this place is a visual spectacle and an example of how ancestral knowledge is still alive today. There, we will learn about the artisanal process of salt harvesting, which has been passed down from generation to generation.

The day will end in Ollantaytambo, a town that not only preserves its Inca urban layout, but also houses an impressive fortress. Walking through its cobbled streets, still inhabited, is like stepping back in time. The Inca ruins on the mountain reveal how the Incas built temples and defensive systems of admirable architectural perfection.

Ollantaytambo will be the perfect prelude to what is to come: the Short Inca Trail.

This day will start very early, heading to the train station in Ollantaytambo. The train ride to km 104 (Chachabamba) will be short but full of spectacular scenery: the Urubamba River winding between mountains and the cloud forest anticipating the adventure.

At the checkpoint, we will begin the hike along the short Inca Trail. After a brief explanation in Chachabamba, the approximately 3-hour ascent will begin. The route culminates in Wiñay Wayna, one of the most impressive archaeological sites on the Inca Trail, famous for its terraces, ritual fountains, and architecture that reflect the grandeur of the Incas.

After exploring Wiñay Wayna, we will enjoy a box lunch in the camp area of the classic Inca Trail.

In the afternoon, the most exciting moment will arrive: the ascent to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). From there, you will have your first unforgettable view of Machu Picchu, emerging between mountains and clouds, in a magical and almost mystical atmosphere. At that time, the place is usually less crowded, allowing you to capture unique photos and enjoy the tranquility.

Afterward, we will descend for approximately one hour to the citadel to take the classic panoramic photographs. Then we will board the bus to Aguas Calientes, where a comforting dinner and a well-deserved rest will close a demanding but rewarding day.

After a hearty breakfast, we will take a bus to Machu Picchu to explore every corner of the citadel at a leisurely pace with an expert guide. Over the course of approximately two hours, we will discover the most important areas: the Temple of the Sun, the Main Square, the Guardian’s House, and the agricultural terraces.

Each explanation from the guide will reveal the spiritual and social importance of Machu Picchu, from its function as a religious center to its role as an astronomical observatory. Stepping on those perfectly carved stones will be like entering a dimension where history is still alive.

At the end of the tour, we will return to Aguas Calientes for lunch and to explore the town a little before taking the train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, private transportation will take us back to Cusco. This return trip will be a time for reflection: you will have fulfilled your dream of visiting Machu Picchu, but the journey will not be over yet.

The fifth day began early, at 5:00 a.m., as we headed toward the famous Mountain of Seven Colors (Vinicunca). The journey to the starting point of the hike included breakfast in the village of Cusipata.

The hour-and-a-half hike will be challenging, but every step is worth it. Upon reaching the highest point, the view of the mountain with its multicolored stripes will be breathtaking. There, surrounded by other travelers and llamas and alpacas, we will understand why this destination has become so popular in such a short time.

After enjoying the view and taking pictures, we will begin the descent and return to Cusipata for a typical lunch before returning to Cusco. We will arrive around 5:00 p.m., tired but happy to have had another unforgettable experience.

The last day of the trip always has a bittersweet feel to it. Our transportation will pick you up at the hotel to take you to the Cusco airport. As the plane takes off, you will feel that you are not just taking home a tourist souvenir, but the experience of a transformative journey. Every archaeological site visited, every colorful market, every Andean flavor, and every sunrise in the Andes will have left an indelible mark on your memory.
